Bio

Greetings! I am an experienced voice over artist, having worked in the industry since the mid 1990s.

BEGINNINGS

I started out voicing for my own and my fellow students’ films at college, where I studied graphic design, specialising in film and animation.  One of these films was broadcast on the BBC as part of the series 'Animal Heroes'.  Other students encouraged me to record my voice for their films after being engaged by my love of doing character voices and accents around the campus.

My first paid job was for a radio commercial for the Sunday Times, straight out of college, as a result of doing some impersonations, including one of a klaxon and a pig (not simultaneously, although I do like a challenge) at the top of my voice in the acoustic paradise that is Birmingham Symphony Hall to an audience of two. Fortunately there was no other performance going on, so I didn't disrupt anyone's big moment, we were just having a look around.  I was booked there and then by one of those two audience members, who worked in advertising.

FURTHER WORK

Since then I have voiced numerous short animations as well as working on 'Monkey Dust' (Talkback Thames), the cult sketch-based animation show broadcast on BBC3 and 'Robin and Wendy's Wet Weekends' on BBC Radio 4, as well as a couple of cameos in live-action comedies on the television.

I have also voiced commercials, documentaries (City of Westminster Archives, Crayford History, Crayford Reminiscence and Youth, Chelsea FC, Charlton Athletic FC) and e-learning as well as work in cinemas (BFI Southbank, Barbican Cinema, Phoenix Cinema, Ritzy Cinema, Lewes Film Club) giving live performances of subtitled films for young audiences who may be unable to keep up with the subtitles - live dubbing, or simultaneous interpretation if you will.

I honed my performance skills on the UK live comedy circuit and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival performing as part of the award-winning double act Hitchcock’s Half Hour with Neil Cole.

OUTSIDE OF VO

MUSIC

I write and record my own music, and have recently formed a band.  I play bass guitar, rhythm guitar and keyboards - all to a basic, underwhelming level.  My music demos are rough around the edges! I also spin records in public from time-to-time, but I don't know how to do all that Fatboy Slim stuff. I love seeing other musicians performing live and showing me how it should be done!

ANIMATION

I make animations, both stopmotion and digital, for a range of clients, mostly, but not exclusively, in the education sector.

FOOTBALL

I volunteer as grassroots football assistant coach for my daughter’s team. In spite of that they are doing well and continue to improve.

CINEMA

I have worked part-time in a public arts venue, so have worked with people from all walks of life and have learned a lot about performance and film making from the numerous visiting artists and performances laid on there.  I love watching films and TV dramas, animations, comedies and documentaries.
